Henri Goetz, a French-American surrealist painter and engraver, is known as the inventor of the carborundum printing technique. This method, which uses carborundum (silicon carbide) powder and a binder on a printing plate, creates a raised, textured surface for rich, grainy effects. Joan Miró, Antoni Clavé, and Antoni Tàpies were among the artists who used this technique, and Miró produced a significant body of work with it. Here is one of his finest examples in a surrealist style.
