James McNeill Whistler collaborated with Thomas Way and his son, Thomas Robert Way, the leading lithographic printers in London, on his lithographs. Whistler's first serious attempts at lithography were in 1878 and 1879, in collaboration with the Ways. He returned to the medium in 1887 and continued working with it until his death, creating a total of 196 original lithographs. This is one of them. The Ways played a significant role in promoting lithography as an art form.
